Colles Fracture is a fracture of the wrist in which there is a dorsally flexed hand, dorsally displaced and dorsally angulated. Colles fracture is one of the most common fractures of the hand and its very painful as well as serious injury. It may take months or years to heal properly. This fracture is generally seen after a fall on an outstretched hand. In this fracture the dorsal end breaks and the end of radius near the wrist is broken. Due to old age or women after menopause are more prone to colles fracture. Skating, horseback riding, bike riding, etc are some of the causes by which there is breaking of the wrist bone. Pain in wrist area, swelling and redness over wrist area, reduced range of motion, bruising, unusual angle etc are some of symptoms of colles fracture. Medical history, physical examination, blood tests, x rays, MRI etc are some of the diagnostic tests for colles fracture. Immobilization, splint, closed reduction and cast, analgesics, antibiotics etc are the main lines of treatment.
